About

Kore Cares has been helping South Dakotans live safely at home for the past 10 years. Founded by Gabrielle Hoing, who spent more than two decades in geriatric care and helped build 11 private duty agencies across 8 states, Kore Cares brings deep expertise and compassionate service to families navigating one of life's biggest transitions.

What started as a mission to bring professional, trustworthy in-home care to South Dakota has grown into a statewide agency serving 43 counties and 111 cities. Whether your parent needs help after surgery, your family member is managing dementia, you're supporting a veteran, or you're not sure yet what level of care is needed, Kore Cares meets families where they are.

The team is built on three promises: trained, vetted caregivers who show up; transparent communication so families always know what's happening; and the flexibility to adjust care as life changes. Carly King, Agency Manager, and her team handle everything from initial assessment through ongoing coordination, so your family can focus on what matters.

Frequently Asked Questions

What are the signs someone needs in-home care?

Common early behaviors include exhaustion after light housework, avoiding the shower for fear of falling, skipping physician visits to avoid a care recommendation, unexplained weight loss, and driving changes. Many families wait until a crisis, such as a fall, stroke, or hospital stay, forces the call.

What is the difference between home care and home health care?

Home health care is typically Medicare-covered, tied to a physician order, and focused on skilled therapy after an illness or hospital stay. Home care is non-medical daily support: bathing, dressing, meal prep, laundry, medication setups, companionship, and ongoing nursing services. Kore Cares offers both.

Does Medicare cover in-home care?

Medicare covers short-term skilled services such as physical, occupational, and speech therapy after a qualifying hospital stay. Medicare does not cover custodial or personal care at home. For non-medical home care, payer options are Medicaid, the VA, long-term care insurance, or private pay.

How do Medicaid, the VA, and long-term care insurance pay for home care?

Medicaid covers qualifying non-medical home care for eligible South Dakota residents. The VA has multiple programs covering home care for veterans. Long-term care insurance policies pay out based on the individual policy terms. Kore Cares helps families navigate all three.

How do I choose a trustworthy home care agency?

Ask about mission and ownership, caregiver training process, CPR and dementia certifications, background-check practices, quality assurance systems, and how the agency handles backup coverage when a caregiver calls out. South Dakota does not currently regulate private-pay home care, which makes these questions essential.

What are red flags when hiring a home care agency?

Watch for vague answers about training, no dementia certification, no documented quality assurance process, no plan for caregiver no-shows, unclear ownership, or inability to produce background-check records for the specific caregiver being assigned.

How do I talk to my parent about getting a caregiver?

Start with observations rather than conclusions. Frame the ask around yourself if needed (do it for me). Give them time. Most people come around when they think about the impact their health has on the people around them.

Is in-home care only for seniors?

No. Kore Cares serves anyone 18 and older, plus pediatric cases on a case-by-case basis. Clients include people recovering from surgery or injury, people living with disabilities, and people managing chronic illness.

What is a care plan in home care?

A written plan that defines what the caregiver will help with each visit, customized to the client's physical needs, cognitive status, home environment, and family preferences. Care plans are updated as needs change.

What is Care Connection?

Kore Cares' intake service for families who know they need help but are not sure what kind. A care coordinator meets with the family, assesses the situation, and maps the options.
